Engineered flooring or solid wood flooring?

The main difference between solid wood flooring and engineered wood flooring is in the structure of the boards. Solid oak flooring is made from a single piece of wood between 18-22mm in thickness, cut from a log which is then dried and machined to the required sizes and grades. Engineered wood flooring is made of a real wood surface layer typically 4-6mm in thickness, complete with a plywood backing that creates a cross grain structure that is incredibly strong and dimensionally stable.

Which flooring should you choose?

The demand for engineered flooring has increased as the general public is more aware of the many advantages it offers over solid wood. Not only is it easier to install over concrete, it's ideal for soundproofing applications, does not expand with high air humidity levels, is perfect for underfloor heating and is ideal when you move into a new building.

However, if you are looking for a floor that will age and get better with time for older style buildings, Victorian, Georgian or for a very high traffic area then new solid wood or reclaimed can be a much better option. Contact us for more information.
